Position Announcement: Fanno Basin Project Manager


Summary of Position:

Southwest Neighborhoods Inc (SWNI) is hiring a temporary, part time Fanno Basin Project Manager for the Watershed Resource Center, located at 6820 SW 45th Ave, with funding from West Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District. The position is temporary, up to 15 hrs per week at $15/hour (no benefits). It is currently funded through December 2010 at the 15 hour level, with further work contingent on securing additional funding.

Description:

The Fanno Basin Project Manager will improve technical assistance to private landowners on properties less than one acre in the Upper Fanno Creek watershed. This position strengthens a partnership between the Tualatin River Watershed Council and Southwest Neighborhoods Inc. through the Southwest Watershed Resource Center (WRC). The WRC is a nexus for SW Portland neighborhoods, community organizations and watershed volunteer groups working in partnership with the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services to enhance watershed function through individual and community-level action.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and coordinate five on-the-ground watershed projects in the Upper Fanno Creek watershed.
  • Conduct site visits with interested landowners, and develop projects that may include:
    • invasive plant species removal,
    • native plant restoration,
    • enhancement or protection from urban wildlife interactions,
    • stormwater management, such as ecoroofs and rain gardens,
    • assisting landowners with applications to local grant programs.
  • Provide outreach, information and referrals to other organizations and programs as needed.
  • Input project data to GIS database and submit project reports.
  • Incumbent will provide own transportation to landowner site visits. Vehicle mileage will be reimbursed.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prior experience or knowledge of ecological restoration practices (invasive plant removal, planting techniques) and project implementation.
  • Excel at public outreach, professional rapport with landowners.
  • Ability to work independently with good organizational skills.
