Local churches, synagogues, and organizations are working together to meet the needs of hungry people in southwest Portland.

What is the need?

The number of families seeking food assistance in Southwest Portland has greatly increased this past year. In 2007, Neighborhood House, our local community service organization, distributed boxes of food to 230 to 280 families a month, feeding approximately 800 individuals. In the fall of 2008 and into the winter of 2009, food boxes have been distributed to 400 - 420 families, feeding up to 1,300 individuals.

What is the goal?

To collect 100,000 pounds of food or the cash equivalent ($1.00 = 5 lbs.) to feed all the hungry people in southwest Portland for four months.
When will this happen?

The SW HOPE: FEED THE HUNGRY campaign will be held in the months of February and March.

How you can help?

Please join us in this effort to help our neighbors in need by donating canned food and non-perishables or making monetary contributions when your neighborhood is canvassed between February 22nd and April 5th.

Checks may be made out to: Neighborhood House. Please note in the memo line “SW HOPE.”

Bring your SW HOPE Coupon* and these local restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to SW HOPE: FEED THE HUNGRY.

Coupons for participating restaurants can be picked up at Neighborhood House, sponsoring churches and synagogues or printed from www.swhope.org. You must bring coupons to these restaurants.
