Public Safety Committee

The Public Safety Committee acts as a forum to support community partnerships to prevent crime and the fear of crime in the community. More specifically, the committee:

  • Increases community policing and livability by encouraging the formation of Neighborhood Watches.
  • Focuses on neighborhood priority issues such as car prowls, car theft, identity theft, and burglary.
  • Works with the Southwest Crime Prevention Specialist and Neighborhood Response Team Officers to problem solve, share information, and address crime issues.
  • Host community meetings to increase awareness and give residents preventive measure

Neighborhood Emergency Teams

Neighborhood Emergency Teams (NETs) are residents trained by the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management and Portland Fire & Rescue to provide emergency disaster assistance within their own neighborhoods. NET members receive basic training (Community Emergency Response Team) on how to save lives and property until the professionals can arrive. They have the skills to help their neighbors without getting hurt themselves.
