Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is an operational committee charged with overseeing and enhancing communication with the board, the committee, the neighbors and the city. More specifically, the committee:

  • Solicits input from neighborhoods as to their communication needs.
  • Determines what communications resources SWNI currently has and how they can be improved.
  • Provides assistance with communication resources recommended to meet specific neighborhood needs.
  • Oversees the Web Server Subcommittee in the development of the SWNI website and supports the neighborhood websites as a communication tool.
  • Develops a “tool box” for neighborhood leaders that outlines resources and services available from governmental agencies in Portland.

Portland Community Media SmartAccess Partnership

Southwest Neighborhoods, Inc serves as a SmartAccess partner to Portland Community Media, providing use of PCM multimedia equipment at no charge to certified producers in southwest Portland.

Thanks to Portland's Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI) and Southwest Neighborhoods, Inc. Neighborhood Small Grant funding, we have partnered with Portland Community Media (PCM) to expand media opportunities that serve the technology and media education needs of underserved and under-supported individuals and interested community members. The SWNI Communications Committee uses grant funds to host media workshops that enable Southwest Portland community members to produce community media programming for PCM's cable channels, the internet, and live public events.
