How to be Involved in Your Neighborhood

South Burlingame Neighborhood Association is involved in many events. Some neighbors like to organize events like picnics and block parties. Others prefer to work around environmental issues, where neighbors participate in park cleanups and stream restorations, while other neighborhoods are involved in land use issues, carefully monitoring livability concerns. All activities make a differece and there is bound to be something that appeals to everyone, find out how you  can get involved.

Events

National Night Out (August)

National Night Out is a huge success with over 175 families gathering in the Park in 2010. Folks walked to this event for the most part towing trikes, dogs, youngsters and picnic baskets of food. We learned about sustainable gardens and current projects in South Burlingame. The event was such a hit that folks want to plan 1-2 similiar events a year. Talk has already started about future Easter Egg hunts in the Spring and pumpkin parties in the Fall. Many thanks to our volunteers and local businesses including Pronto Pup for providing snow cones, Bella's Garage for ice coffee and the City of Portland for their on-going support.

Projects

Sign Caps Project

Phase 1 and phase 2  fund raising efforts have almost brought us to our goal for Phase I. Thanks to donations made at the Nationl Night Out Event our total funds received is now over $1800 towards our goal of $2500. Market of Choice had generously donated $500 towards this project and their manager will be attending our Sept. 8th, 2010 meeting at Capitol Hill School at 7:00 PM. Please attend this meeting to help with the sign cap project or get involved in any projects for your neighborhood. South Burlingame Sign Caps Project

(In the memo portion of the check write: "SBNA sign caps")

Neighborhood sign caps help a community establish an identity while increasing civic pride and property value. SBNA has come this far:
                                        • Approved a sign cap design
                                        • Gained support from local businesses
                                        • Counted and measured signs in our neighborhood
                                        • Approved Phase One (perimeter street signs – approximate cost $2500) and Phase Two
(neighborhood signage – approximate cost $4500) for sign distribution

Now we need your help to unify and beautify our neighborhood with South Burlingame sign caps!

Please consider sponsoring a sign cap by making a tax deductible donation of $5, $10, $25, or the amount of your choice to the sign cap project.
                                            Make checks payable to:
                                            Southwest Neighborhoods Inc or SWNI
                                           7688 SW Capitol Hwy
                                           Portland, OR 97219

Let’s improve our neighborhood and show our pride in South Burlingame!
