Bicycle Facilities Strategy to Reach Platinum Status in Southwest Portland

SWTrails is pleased to present Bicycle Facilities Strategy to Reach Platinum Status in Southwest Portland.

• Support the Portland Bicycle Master Plan update process with specific facility recommendations, and
• Encourage the city to bring the same passion for bicycling, which has helped create a first class system in other areas of the city, to SW Portland.

This comprehensive facilities recommendation is the culmination of a 1 ½-year effort including community reconnaissance rides, selection and evaluation of potential bicycle routes, two public open houses, and development of priorities. The strategy represents a departure from the current Bicycle Master Plan by shifting the emphasis from bike lanes on major streets to a bicycle boulevard concept focused on low traffic streets. Filling gaps in the existing system is also emphasized.
